The commercial future of the Premier League post-Brexit

The commercial future of the Premier League post-Brexit

The UK’s decision to vote for ‘Brexit’ on 23 June 2016 will have a widespread impact across the UK. However, almost 9 months later, the terms by which the UK will leave the EU are still unclear.

The effects of Brexit on the Premier League will largely be determined by the terms of the UK’s exit as well as any bilateral agreements the UK government concludes with individual EU Member States.

But how will Brexit affect the commercial future of the Premier League?

Could the Premier League’s current sponsorship and licensing model (and the enormous revenues it generates) be adversely affected?

Will Brexit affect the amount of big money investment/takeovers or international transfers?

Could it result in a more aggressive salary cap?

How will Brexit affect Premier League fans?

Our lawyers Carol Couse and Tiran Gunawardena shed light on these issues and more in an interview with Lexis Nexis in September 2016. Click here to read their interview.
